What Size Wheels & Tires Should you Buy?

We here at Mavromont Industries (Pony R Parts) have spent a lot of time and effort to produce very high quality aftermarket wheels. We made sure that we have designed sizes, lug patterns, and offsets for a large number of available brake and suspension options that you have now or may consider in the future for your Mustang. Please read the information below to help you determine what sizes and offsets will work best for your application. For the Front:

17x6.5” -> This is our so called “skinny”. We offer this size for those customers wanting to run a drag or “Big n Little” look. This wheel compliments the 9” or 10” rear wheels nicely making then look just a little wider. Also, being that you can run a 205 or 215 series tire, you have ample tread patch that affords good handling and breaking characteristics. These look like a skinny but handle like an 8” wide wheel. No more hitting the brakes and sliding right into an accident. These wheels help you avoid the scary characteristics of true front “skinnies” yet give you confidence inspiring traction.

Recommended tire size: 205/55-17 or 215/50-17

17x8.0” -> This is our recommended front and optional rear wheel for the Foxbody Mustang. The 8” wide Pony R wheels are exactly one inch wider and one inch taller than the stock 1991-93 Pony wheels. You can run these at all 4 corners if you are interested in rotating your tires regularly. These also compliment our 9” or 10” rear Pony R wheels. These are the widest wheel we recommend up front on Foxbody Mustangs. Anything bigger starts to increase front end weight and adversely affects steering. Running a 17x8 wheel up front offers optimum handling and performance characteristics for your Foxbody Mustang, even when compared to 9” wheels for the front. If you want to go a little wider in back, please consider our 17x9” or 17x10” Pony R wheel.

Recommended tire size (1979-90 Mustangs): 235/55-17 or 255/40-17

Recommended tire size (1991-93 Mustangs): 235/55-17, 245/45-17, or 255/40-17

17x9.0” -> This is our recommended wheel for the rear of Foxbody Mustangs. The 9” wide Pony R wheels give you a little wider wheel and really help to fill out the rear wheel wells. There are several tires options available for this wheel and this combo will really make your Foxbody stand out, especially from the back. The 17x8” front and 17x9” rear wheel setup is probably our most popular and deservedly so since most customers are able to achieve a nice balance of width and “fender fill” front to back.

Recommended tire size: 255/55-17 or 255/40-17

Notes: For the 255/45 tires, they are bolt, no modification needed.

17x10.0” -> This is our “I Mean Business” look for the back of your Foxbody Mustang. Our 17x10” Pony R wheels are not for the faint of heart. They do require very minor work, depending on tire size and ride height, to fit properly. However, once you get these Bad Boyz to fit, there is no greater look than a Foxbody Mustang rolling on 17x10” rear Pony R wheels! Nuff said!

Recommended tire size: 275/40-17, 285/40-17, 295/45-17 or 315/35-17

Notes: For the 17x10” wheels in the back, you will have to remove your quad shocks. It also suggested that you eventually upgrade to aftermarket rear control arms at some point after removal of the quad shocks.
