Ashtray Door fix

This is not a partial fix and does not use magnets or weights. Once installed, your ashtray will function like new, the door will stay open and stay closed! No unsightly weights, magnets, bolts or screws! Retain the stock look and function! This is a complete kit that fixes the spring, peg (stud), and metal plate! These weak areas are discussed below.

1. The first problem is a weak plastic tab on the underside of the console that holds the spring. The key to fixing the 1987-93 ashtray doors is the spring tab on the center console. This spring is held under constant tension and functions to hold the door open and closed. Now, the spring tab is what holds the spring in place and often fails (since the spring is metal and the tab is plastic). There are three ways that the spring tab fails. First, the spring will wear out the small hole at the end of the spring tab. Secondly, as the spring tension bends the tab out- ward, the spring passes through the enlarged hole and the door stops functioning. Lastly, sometimes the tab just breaks. Our kit provides a new SS metal spring tab.

2. The second common weak point is the peg near the cigarette lighter. Our kit also fixes this secondary problem with a replacement metal peg.

3. The last weak point is the 1991 to 1993 plastic doors. They have a metal plate/stop attached to the underside that usually becomes dislodged. Our ISB-01A kit has provisions for this type of problem and the plate can be discarded.

We have spared no expense in manufacturing a quality product. All pieces included in the kit are stainless steel for both durability and longevity. With this kit, your ashtray door will function as it did when it was new and will not go bad again! No more frustrating non-functioning ashtray doors!!!

Please note that there are two types of doors used on the 1987 to 1993 Mustangs. These are a one piece metal door and two piece plastic door. The metal door was used on all 1987-89 mustangs and on some 1990 and 1991 Mustangs. The plastic doors have a a contoured metal plate attached to their underside. The plastic doors are typical of, but not exclusive to, 1991-93 Mustangs. The metal doors do not use all the parts in the kit while the plastic doors do use all the parts. The day I received this kit, is the same day I spent the 15 minutes fixing it and have been very pleased with ever since. My 1989 Mustang 5.0 is my baby, and it bothered me to no end that the ashtray door did not close... This was my Mustang, and that just was NOT acceptable. Fortunately, I saw your company in 5.0 Magazine "Tech Inspection" section with what appeared to be a "miracle cure" to an all too common (Mustang) problem. Honestly, I met it with some skeptisism. It just looked too easy, but for the price I couldn't go wrong and decided to order a kit. It only took me 45 minutes to do the whole job which included cleaning out the underside of the console. I've spent lots of cash on this car and I'll tell you that not all of it was a good investment. The 1987-93 ashtray door fix is big bang for the bucks. You have no idea how much that broken door bothered me. I tried every thing but gluing it shut. I found the kit was of good quality, clear instructions, and most importantly, IT WORKED! ....
